Joyce Brown

Joyce Brown has been a Santa Cruz Community Health board member since April 2021. Born in Mississippi, Joyce moved to Santa Barbara with her family in 1962 at age 12, transitioning from a segregated rural school system to a multi-ethnic city school. Encouraged by her father, Joyce pursued higher education, graduating with double Master’s degrees from the University of California Santa Barbara in 1976, honoring her father’s value of education. Joyce has worked in various educational and social service roles, including managing Santa Cruz County Resources for Women and counseling UCSC students. She earned an MA in Educational Psychology in 1985 and was ordained as a minister in 2017. Joyce has dedicated her life to spiritual counseling and is passionate about accessible healthcare and affordable housing, making her an asset to SCCH.
