There is no hyperbole that is hyperbolic enough.  Texas is living in a dystopia of the religious far-right’s making.  We, in California, appear to be safe unless there’s a successful recall.  The alarm we’ve been sounding – that Reproductive Justice will only be for those who can afford it – is no longer on the horizon. The actions of Texas and the US Supreme Court make it tragically clear it is here.
 
We see this every day:  women who struggle as single parents, women working crap jobs for low wages, women with PTSD due to violent partners, women working to educate themselves, free themselves, empower themselves.  The state, the zealots, the powerful, the power hungry do not own these women – not their bodies nor their agency.
 
For decades, there’s been scant or no investment in integrated physical/social/emotional health care, childcare, universal preschool, college tuition, job training.  The hypocrisy of forced childbirth that leads to more children locked in generational cycles of poverty is so galling, so incensing, so maddening, as to make one choke.
  
But we must stay in the fight. Here are some worthy organizations to which you can donate.  Some are fighting the legal battles; others are working on new ways to provide safe medication abortion; and still others (like us) who are on the frontlines of women’s health care.  Give as though your daughters’ and granddaughters’, and great granddaughters’ rights depend on it. Because they do.

Where to Donate

Center for Reproductive Rights is the only global legal-advocacy organization dedicated to reproductive rights. Its counsel represented providers in the case against the abortion ban, and it filed the emergency request to the Supreme Court to block S.B. 8. Donations fund the legal work it provides to protect reproductive rights across the world. DONATE TO CENTER FOR REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS

ACLU The ACLU represented the plaintiffs in the case to fight for abortion access in Texas, and it was one of the many groups that requested the Supreme Court block S.B. 8. While the abortion ban remains in effect, it is continuing to defend plaintiffs and fight to block the law. DONATE TO ACLU

Plan C provides abortion pills by mail to all 50 states. Its website has a state-by-state search tool that offers information on different ways to access pills, any potential legal risks based on your area, and resources for other organizations that offer medical, legal, or emotional support. Planned Parenthood Action Fund Planned Parenthood was founded over 100 years ago on the revolutionary idea that women have the right to access the information and care they need to live strong, healthy lives. Today, the Planned Parenthood Action Fund (PPAF) fights to protect that right — often in the face of extreme politicians trying to take it away. DONATE TO PPAF

Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas, Inc. Planned Parenthood is the largest single provider of reproductive and sexual health care in the country. It currently has 11 abortion-providing clinics in Texas. Along with Whole Woman’s Health, it was another plaintiff in the case suing to block S.B. 8. DONATE TO PLANNED PARENTHOOD GREATER TEXAS

The National Network of Abortion Funds builds power with members to remove financial and logistical barriers to abortion access by centering people who have abortions and organizing at the intersections of racial, economic, and reproductive justice. DONATE TO NATIONAL NETWORK OF ABORTION FUNDS

National Abortion Federation counts abortion providers, including independent clinics and physicians’ offices, health professionals, and pro-choice organizations, as members. The federation works with providers to keep patients and staff safe through things like security assessments. It currently has its own fund to donate to abortion providers. Indigenous Women Rising Abortion Fund (IWR) started in 2014 to bring attention to Indigenous women who relied on Indian Health Services for health care being denied access to Plan B. The group has its own abortion fund that’s open to all Indigenous folks in the U.S. and Canada who are seeking one. The fund also helps with food, gas, and child-care costs.
